Betty Hutton is the kind of actress I wanna be. Not the pretty flowering girl but the funny character roles.

I've loved Betty Hutton for years, but the part was originally due to be played by Judy Garland, I don't think even Judy could've topped Betty in this show!

Betty was perfect for this part. Judy had issues going on and wasn't fit to do the part. Betty said the mgm cast and crew were not kind to her. Robert said it didn't show on film, she said you can't let it. She wanted the part so bad but it was a bad experience for her. Nobody today has the kind of energy she had back then. I think she was great.

I can't get over how handsome Howard Keel was in this movie and also in SHOWBOAT and CALAMITY JANE. He was an incredible man at this time.

Judy Garland was the original choice to play Annie Oakley, but I believe Betty Hutton was far more suited to it and did a wonderful job. My cousin Betty always reminded me of Betty Hutton. Whilst staying at the Norfolk Royale Hotel in Bournemouth I had afternoon tea with Howard Keel, an extremely nice and courteous gentleman. The part of Buffalo Bill was played by the late Ted Hockridge in a London production that starred Suzi Quattro as Annie. At one time a friend owned the solid silver plated saddle that was presented to Buffalo Bill when he brought his Wild West Show to London. My second wife hated the song No Business Like....
so I would sing it at every opportunity!

Wonder how tall Howard Keel was at this time.  He towers over other actors.

Betty Hutton completely stole the scene!
She' s perfect for this role.

She made it HER picture!
A formidable comedienne, singer, dancer and looked pretty as well.

I guess they did convince her to get into show business, given Betty Hutton's subsequent role in "The Greatest Show in Earth." :)

Betty Hutton was fantastic. But I prefer "I got the sun in the morning and the moon at night."
