Gary Moore — The Messiah Will Come Again

  • 🎬 Video
  • ℹ️ Description
GARY MOORE (4 April 1952 - 6 February 2011)

In remembrance to one of my all time guitar heroes, who sadly passed away a year ago today. This remains one of my favourite performances by him and I can still remember buying the original version, written and recorded by Roy Buchanan, when I was still a 15 year old boy and starting out learning to play the guitar.

This performance was recorded at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1990 - a venue he revisited a number of times through the years.

Gary, you are sadly missed.

Great tone and vibrato and the sustain is crazy.  He wrings so much from one sustained note then he just smokes some fast runs out of blue and the fast notes sound fast in contrast.  Mastery.

I love the fact that Gary Moore is still loved and revered as one of the greatest guitarists ever. There seems to be a large cohort of us diehard fans on here. Let's make sure he is never forgotten!

It’s April 2020. Global pandemic continues to rage. I came across this by way of its title. I cried and I’m not ashamed.

In my humble opinion this is the single greatest piece of guitar work ever captured on video

There are many good guitarists who played fast and loud but only one who could play with such passion and dedication to the music ... And when he passed away many years ago there is still no one who can fill in this empty room that he left behind ... We miss you Gary Moore ... Rest in Peace

I've played guitar for 45 years.. I could not, cannot even begin to stand next to this man. He is without a doubt one of the top 5 guitarist of all time. The simple fact is the man lived and breathed music. There will never be another like him.

This performance is beyond... anything I can say in here. Just one note: do not forget big Big Roy Buchanan who composed the piece.

This may be considered sacrilege among this crowd but his vibrato reminds me of Yngwie when he's on his game. It just truly sings.

Ive heard the common opinion throughout my life that Hendrix was the best guitarist of all time. And though i i can agree that hendrix was indeed a god like creature on the guitar. But Gary Moore was taken because God wanted the best guitar teacher. Hands down untouchable and he could mock absolutley anyone from any Genre on guitar. Any style any song any time. If you hubt here on youtube and find videos of him playing with other greats live you can see lots of his mockery battles. They were all in good fun but this man sat them all down. I mean look what he just did here with a Buchanan track. I rest my case.

Strong fingers, just like Angus. Plays with his soul, like Hendrix, impeccable sense of timing, like Santana - perfect guitar work!

I guess one of the things I like about Gary is his love of the instrument, not cynical like some other big names I could mention. And in that respect, he wasn’t unlike many of us as kids - staring at all these gorgeous new Gibsons & Fenders hanging on the music shop wall, dreaming of what the future could his demise was untimely, he managed to do it and thank goodness at least for that. I did read that when his lifeless body was discovered in his hotel room, what was propped up by his bed, but his guitar, God bless him. A real guitarist to the very end.
