Trump is setting impossible targets to scuttle the deal with China. In addition, America is banning all kinds of Chinese products on national security grounds. E.g. Telecoms equipment, phones, power arrays, security cameras, kitchen cabinets, even rail cars which is already under production by CRRC in the US. America is also going round the world to stop other countries from buying Chinese products and infrastructure projects.
America doesn't want to deal. Just call it off. The best outcome is for both countries to stop trading with each other.
