Brides by Force. Marriage by kidnapping pushes Kyrgyz women to suicide

  • 🎬 Video
  • ℹ️ Description
It will hardly surprise anyone that bride-snatching is illegal in Kyrgyzstan, but when you look at sentencing, the reality paints a far different picture. A sheep's life is worth four times more than a young woman's. The custom -- in which single young men kidnap their bride of choice and pressure them to agree to marriage -- is very common in this country. But as RT's team has found out, this centuries-old tradition surprisingly has its passionate proponents as well as harsh critics.

Stop calling it marriage. This is rape. This is abduction.

Kidnapped girls need to remember that accidents happen. Men fall stairs, cliffs etc all the time. When pushed.

I'm surprised they chose suicide over homicide. I'd be a widow 😈.

I am a Kyrgyz girl, I am 19.
Yes, unfortunately we have such a "tradition" and it is a pity that it is considered normal. The fact is that people with a traditional mindset simply cannot understand that this is wrong. Also, many girls from traditional families remain in the family of the "husband", because after you have been stolen, you are given into the hands of various aunts to prepare you and if you are going to leave, then the oldest grandmother will lie in front of you and many girls will simply cannot step over her because of their upbringing. And then it is already difficult for them to leave because it will be considered a shame, no matter how absurd it may sound. fortunately, sometimes the girls' parents manage to pick them up.
But modern advanced Kyrgyz youth are constantly fighting this phenomenon and we hope that soon this tradition will no longer be.

P.S. There was one case when a girl managed to escape, but before leaving, she cut off the genitals of her "husband".

Sorry for not good English. 🌼

Edit: OMG THANK YOU ALL FOR SO MUCH LIKES
IT IS SO COOL THAT YOU CARE
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

Just because it's a tradition doesn't mean it's alright. Imagine being scared of walking down the street because you might be kidnapped. DISGUSTING

If a guy gets abducted by another guy to be his partner, will the family except that?😂

It’s interesting how the men are saying how they don’t understand why the girls hung themselves. If someone is forced to have sex with a stranger and then enslaved to do housework and not see family, what kin of life is that? Savages.
