My son, your guardian angel was definitely working overtime for you throughout this horrible incident. My heart was filled with joy when I saw you walk through our door.

If the guy who built the bathroom ever needs a reference for a construction job he can just show a picture of the bathroom still standing & will not need to say another word. That had to be scary as hell. Glad you're okay.

This is one of the most craziest first person accounts of this storm. Holy crap

Sheltering in the bathroom was a smart move. Would have been a different outcome otherwise. Sorry for your loss but you will overcome and be stronger as a result.

Brendan, you did our deck. I knew you were a class act, but this video shows in spades the content of your character. You and your crew are awesome. You lived. You built it once and you will come back stronger than ever with your attitude. Be well. Scott Thompson

This is the most insane, well shot video over someone in a metal building watching the roof get ripped off I've ever seen

'I built that bathroom" "Thank you!" Hire that guy to build your new bathroom.

What did your customer say when you showed up to complete the job the day after your business was blown away? I would have been really impressed.

Closing the flimsy bathroom door after the shop blows away like Wile-E Coyote closing the drapes as a train bears down on him XD
Glad you made it!

Surrounded by fires right now. Your attitude (along with the rest of Iowa) is amazing and inspiring. If you can handle that with grace, I can deal with this.

This is heartbreaking. I hope you get the place rebuilt. The MAIN THING is you are alive and being in the bathroom was smart and most likely saved your life.

Treat a strong derecho like this the sane way you would treat a tornado! This video can be used as a message and teaching aid on why the most interior room on the lowest floor is the safest place you can be.

It's a great decision that you went in the bathroom. And you really had a friend there. I see animal encounters as signs and I googled a bit. The frog helps people trough "severe life changes" (quote) and helps you "follow your gut feelings" (quote). Sounds fitting? But whatever you believe about that frog, it at least didn't let you be alone in a harsh situation. ^_^

This video you created of your Derecho adventure/tragedy most definitely has a happy ending. You did remain cool under very serious circumstances and maintained a positive outlook and kept your humor. I’m so glad you and your family and crew are safe. Blessings to you as you rebuild.

I was watching and the roof started moving I was like oh that’s scary. Then the roof got a hole I was like holy crap. Then the roof ripped off I was like HOLY CRAP. Literately jumped in my chair. Props to you for keeping your cool. I definitely would have thought that was the end too.

I had just arrived in Cedar Rapids the day before the storm. My Son and I drove from Colorado to visit my oldest Son, his wife and my 2 young Granddaughters who live in an apartment on Oxford Lane near Ellis St. and Edgewood. The sirens went off and not long after the wind started and Wow! We certainly didn't expect what ultimately happened! We lived in Florida for 8 years and experienced hurricanes and this was like reliving that again! Absolutely crazy! So much damage! We were in a 3rd floor apartment and we could feel the whole apartment shaking! Some first floor neighbors came to our door and invited us to their place. After the 3rd day with no power we were able to get a hotel room in Des Moines. My Son left the Sunday after the storm and My oldest Son and his family headed back to Cedar Rapids to what they thought would be a dark hot apartment but thankfully the power came back on that afternoon. All the food in their fridge had to be thrown away. I feel bad for the 50, 000 still without electricity. That was not my best visit for sure! Happy you are alright.
